This workshop is for home educated children aged 7+ and their families.
Just how do you keep a medieval castle warm? In the past, castles like Pontefract could be cold and drafty places.
In this workshop, investigate ways in which the castle's rooms would have been heated. Explore different methods used to try and keep the heat in, including cloth tapestries.
We will:
look at pictures of real medieval and Tudor tapestries for inspiration
create our own small fabric wall hangings inspired by the history of Pontefract Castle
try out different textile techniques such as sewing, needle felting and cutting and pasting shapes.
