Two children painting with natural paints in a workshop

Colour Chemistry from Nature's Rainbow (SEND)

Mon 27 October 2025, 10am - 12pm

Pontefract Castle

Calling all future chemists! Did you know that there are so many amazing colours that can be created from plants?

Join us for a series of workshops to investigate natural dyes, inks and stains. Be inspired by our medieval garden and the plants that were grown there in the past.

Try a new technique in every session!

27 October: In this session, we’ll learn about natural colours used in food. Have a go at decorating biscuits using naturally coloured icing sugar.

These STEM workshops are funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

This is a relaxed SEND session of this workshop. SEND groups are always welcome at all of our sessions. We are also running these SEND sessions for visitors who benefit from a more relaxed atmosphere.
