Pontefract Castle is the perfect photo backdrop. Our sites and teams are used to working with photographers and film crews. We love the chance to share our beautiful places with new audiences!

Personal (non-commercial) photography and filming

Taking photos or videos of Pontefract Castle for your own personal use is very welcome. We'd love for you to share the joy and wonder of your visit with your family, friends and followers!

Photography is allowed in all of our museums and castles. This includes the dungeon at Pontefract Castle.

Please don't take images of other visitors (without their consent), including our staff. Drone use is not allowed without prior approval.

If you are taking photos or videos for your own personal use, you don't need to book or let us know.

Commercial photography and filming

We've got lots of experience working with professional film crews. We've hosted the BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5 for documentaries and light entertainment shows. Dan Brown, Robert Peston, Cash in the Attic and Four in a Bed have filmed here. We also get regular visits from local news programmes BBC Look North and ITV Calendar.

Filming at Pontefract Castle could also include interviews with our team of experts. Or, it could be the perfect location for your latest project.

We also welcome professional photographers for promotional photoshoots and other commercial work.

Wedding and celebration photography

Pontefract Castle could be the perfect backdrop for your wedding or celebration photos. We would love to be a part of your big day!

We don't charge for this type of photography. We just ask that you let us know when you plan to come, so we can check for any timing clashes.

Email us at castles@wakefield.gov.uk or pop into the Visitor Centre for a chat during opening hours. Our friendly staff will be happy to talk you through what's possible.
