Wakefield Museums and Castles

Home education

Home educators are always welcome at all our sites. Our museums and castles can provide lots of links to local history and heritage.

What's on for home educators

We have regular bookable home education workshops each month in term time. The sessions are at Pontefract Castle and Wakefield Museum.

You can find the upcoming sessions on our What's On page and filter by 'Home education'.

What's On page

Visiting our sites

You can visit our sites during their opening hours. If you are a small group up to six people you do not need to book.

If you are an organised group of over six people, we ask that you contact us to book a self-led visit. This is because we often have other groups at our sites. We want to ensure everyone has a fun, enjoyable and safe visit.

Private workshops

As well as our public home education workshops, we can also run private workshops for organised groups. A private session for a group of up to 25 children (plus accompanying adults) costs £80. You can choose Pontefract Castle or Wakefield Museum for your session.

If you are interested in booking a group workshop, get in touch at museumslearning@wakefield.gov.uk.

Resources

We also have a wide range of learning resources you can access from home.

Topics cover areas such as Roman Castlefordthe First World War and Wakefield through time.

We've also got historically-inspired leisure time activities too. Enjoy colouring our collection, making tasty recipes and fun crafts on our Activities at Home page.

Home educators newsletter

We've got a dedicated Home Educators newsletter! Sign up to our newsletter to be the first to find out what we are planning in the future.
