The Wakefield area is famous for the rhubarb triangle.

The triangle is between Wakefield, Morley and Rothwell. This is the area where rhubarb grows really well because of the type of soil it has.

Here’s a yummy rhubarb crumble recipe which is fun to make and tastes really good too! This recipe serves two.

Ingredients

  • 80g of rhubarb (chopped)
  • 15g of caster sugar
  • 40g of plain flour
  • 20g of cold butter (cubed)
  • 25g of demerara sugar
  • 10ml of cold water

You'll also need:

  • a small oven-proof dish approximately 15cm x 12cm
  • mixing bowls
  • large spoon

How to make it

  1. In a bowl mix the rhubarb, cold water and caster sugar together. Place the mixture in your oven-proof dish.
  2. Sift the flour into a clean bowl. Add the butter and rub in with your fingertips until the mixture is like fine breadcrumbs.
  3. Stir in the demerara sugar.
  4. Spread the crumble mixture onto your rhubarb - but don't pat it down too much!
  5. Preheat the oven to 180°C (gas mark 4). Bake for around 25 to 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the rhubarb is bubbling. Be very careful around the oven and hot dish.
  6. Leave to cool then serve with cream, ice cream or custard.
