Putting on the spectacular event was a huge community effort. Lots of people gave their time and skills to help make it a huge success.

1700 performers and 700 children took part in the Pageant. They included Dramatic and Operatic Societies, church groups and choirs, Scouting and Guiding groups, and military bands.

There were another 200 volunteers working behind the scenes each night. Lots of volunteers also helped to make the costumes, props and scenery. 500 people helped make the 2000 costumes.

Another 500 schoolboys worked with their expert tutors to make a vast array of props. They made hundreds of weapons from different periods of history. They even made the throne for the Pageant’s Queen Victoria!
