Madam Connie's wig, 2010s

Madam Connie's wig, 2010s

Collected in 2019

A bright red bobbed wig with darker red undertones, on a bejewelled and glittery mannequin head on display at Wakefield Museum

Steven Ogilvie wore this wig as his fabulous drag queen persona, Madam Connie.

Madam Connie was a regular performer in Wakefield. Steven says performing increased his confidence and helped him through difficult times.

Madam Connie also had a range of amazing dresses. Local dressmaker Sue Riley made many of her outrageous outfits. Steven first met Sue in the 1990s. He gave Sue her first ever drag outfit commission. It became a lasting partnership.

Madam Connie hung up her stilettos for the last time in 2019.

Steven kindly donated the wig to the museum along with other costumes, accessories and make up.
