Five men of varying ages sat in motorised mobility bikes, with a crowd of other men stood behind them

Most of Jack Hulme's neighbours in the pit village of Fryston worked at the colliery. The rows of terrace houses were built for the miners and their families.

Coal mining was difficult and dangerous work. Jack Hulme took a series of photographs of injured miners in their mobility vehicles.

Bill Crossley (second from left) had a mining accident when his daughter was a baby. She remembers his close bond with his friend, Mr Gordon (first from left).
