Sugar bowl and side plate, Alice Gostick, 1919

Sugar bowl and side plate, Alice Gostick, 1919

Collected in 2021

A ceramic sugar bowl handpainted by Alice Gostick with a tree-inspired design

These items are beautiful examples of Castleford peasant pottery. This style of decoration was popular locally in the early 20th century. The pots were colourful and affordable.

Alice Gostick hand painted the colourful leaf and branch design on these objects.

She also added versions of her unique maker's mark to the bases.
