Dish, Henry Moore, 1920

Hand painted dish, Henry Moore, about 1920

Collected in 1972

A shallow dish handpainted with colourful abstract leaf designs

We believe this dish was hand painted by the famous sculptor, Henry Moore.

The decoration style is known as peasant pottery. Moore learned this type of pottery painting from his teacher at Castleford Grammar School, Alice Gostick.

Gostick taught evening classes in peasant pottery too. The style is known for its bright colours, bold patterns and abstract designs.
