Glass walking stick

Glass walking stick, Castleford

Collected in 1934

Currently on display at Castleford Museum

A long beaded glass walking stick filled with white and red sprinkles

Castleford's glassmakers were talented craftspeople. They often made novelty items to develop and show off their skill.

They made glass walking sticks like these as a pastime. This example has a clever twisted design and a bobble handle. It is filled with tiny 'hundreds and thousands' sweets!
