Please note that we are guided by a Collections Development Policy. This means we are not able to accept every offer of donation.

We are unable to accept donations brought into our sites or sent by post without this being discussed with our Collections Team in advance.

We ask for this information so that we can contact you about your enquiry and for our collection records. All data is stored securely and we will not use it for any other purposes or share it with anybody else.

What is your object, and what does it look like? Please include any relevant publication details or identifying marks.
What is the height, width / circumference and depth of the object?
What condition is the object in? (E.g. good condition, broken, etc.) Include any known or potential hazards (such as batteries, chemicals, flammable substances, asbestos, radioactive parts, etc.)
Please tell us about the history of your object, to your knowledge - when, where, and by whom was it made; how, where and when you acquired it; significance to the Wakefield district; any personal stories associated with it

Are you the legal owner of this object and therefore able to transfer ownership to us? * Do you legally own this object?
Are you acting on behalf of the legal owner? * If yes, please be aware that we may need further confirmation or evidence that you are able to act in this capacity

If the object is not accepted into the museum collection, would you like it to be offered to our Learning Team for use in educational activities? * Please be aware that, as a ‘handling’ object, it could become damaged and may be disposed of.

Once we receive your donation form, a member of our Curatorial Team will be in touch to discuss your donation offer. 

Please keep hold of your object until we have contacted you. We cannot accept donations brought to site or sent through the post, unless they have been agreed and arranged in advance by our Collections Team.  

We will be in touch to discuss your enquiry or donation offer within 20 working days.

Want to find out more about your object?

We have monthly Meet the Curator sessions at Wakefield Museum and Pontefract Museum.

Wakefield Museum: first Thursday of the month, 2pm to 4pm

Pontefract Museum: second Wednesday of the month, 10am to 12pm

They're free and no appointment is needed.
