National Portfolio Organisation 2018 - 2027

Wakefield Museums and Castles is proud to have been awarded National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) status by Arts Council England from 2018 – 2027.

This funding enables us to:

• Continue to develop first-rate temporary exhibitions and innovative permanent galleries across all of our museums
• Continue and expand our work with children and young people
• Further expand events programmes at all sites, creating engaging and informative experiences for all ages

Museum Renewal Fund 2025

We are delighted to have received a Museum Renewal Fund award. We are grateful to Arts Council England and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport for their support. The fund is aimed at providing urgent support to museums which are owned and directly maintained by local authority funding. It will help them deliver projects to safeguard vital community engagement and ensure continued public access to museums and their collections.

Museums bring people together to connect with their heritage, the world around them, and with each other. They sit at the heart of communities. They act as custodians of the nation’s stories for current and future generations. This funding will help civic museums continue to serve their communities while also investing in new initiatives to strengthen long-term financial resilience.

This crucial funding will enable projects to support the long-term financial sustainability of Wakefield Museums and Castles.
